I share your concern that this vehicle may be used to progressively push “other gun safety” initiatives (read “infringements of the Second Amendment). So, we must be on guard against such expansions of this mission. But, be careful about being reflexively against everything “they” say, lest you sound unreasonable. All gun owners should support voluntary measures to store firearms safely. All of us should agree that leaving firearms within reach of young children or exposed to easy theft is irresponsible.
If Trump said grass is green and the sky is blue the Left would argue otherwise. Let’s not be like them. Don’t let reflex opposition make you say something you don’t really mean.
Schools have a legitimate interest in preventing children from bringing their parents’ carelessly stored guns to school, something that does happen from time to time. The message advocated (safe storage) is the same as has been long taught by Eddie Eagle, the NRA and NSSA. Save your critical fire for when they push some measure that actually infringes the rights of gun owners.

It is a sad state of affairs when our government pursues constant psychological operations against its residents. This psy-op brainwashing is not only constitutionally questionable but is in violation of the spirit of our free, liberty embracing republic.
That is not necessarily bad, but schools and teachers are not experts on firearms and in many places will be opposed to firearm ownership or usage. It is like expecting the PETA to provide recipes for steak or venison or people who can not swim and do not own boats to talk about water and boat safety. If they get the NRA to provide the information that is one thing, but Biden is opposed to firearm ownership unless it is a double barrel shotgun.

The mainline Christian churches have walked into this role, through the radicalization of their clergy. Bonhoeffer's theology of resistance to evil (so necessary in Hitlerian Germany) has been hijacked to mean resistance to anything the Left deems evil: Trump, guns, and now opposition to sex change treatment for minors.
