I don't know whether its the marijuana or maybe the reflection off of all the solar panels, but California politicians have Jell-O for brains, and that's an insult to Jell-O. Between Newsom, Kamala, and this mayor, the only thing I can do is quote the great Bugs Bunny: "What a bunch or maroons" "What an embezzle"
I'm sure this will take off like wildfire in many states - regardless of constitutionality. "They" (Bloomberg, etc.) have an almost infinite amount of money to keep the suppression going.
There's going to be a lot of work required by the San Jose police: they'll need warrants to grab those guns (yeah, right, they'll bother with warrants).
One statement I found really amusing was "...taxing a stabbing victim for bleeding on the sidewalk. ". That's something they would *definitely* do in NJ. After all, they tax rainwater (truth! it's mostly aimed at businesses, who have to pay for parking lot runoff - which is the direct result of over-development and turning the state into a third-world country).
I'm not a lawyer, but it would appear to me that hizzoner may have opened a door into setting a court precedent (if there isn't already) of where the responsibility lays for keeping the city safe from 'harm'.
When a city lays the blame squarely on a select subset of those citizens and attempts to levy a tax against constitutionally protected rights, I believe it could backfire if it makes it to court with good lawyers and good judges. I know that's asking a lot from California, but there have to be some in there somewhere.
It wouldn't have to be a lot of good lawyers, even some of the 'not so good' ones will see dollar signs by looking at the deep pockets of many cities. Carefully selecting a city in a known reliable district may be enough to get the ball rolling.
