Law enforcement, especially in the current day, faces an unenviable job. It is often thankless and of course is very dangerous, exposing LEOs to the very worst of humanity on a daily or even hourly basis. For that I commend most members but for a not insignificant percentage of law enforcement they see this as a license to flaunt the very laws they are called to uphold. Sheriff McFadden appears to be just that sort who believes his police service exempts him from the rules.

It does not. His behavior taints the entire profession.

Concerning to me is why the government knows that someone attended AA or NA. Apparently ANONYMOUS doesn’t mean what it implies in North Carolina.

I see nothing about the Sherrif's political affiliation. Judging from his actions he is a demonrat-- Do as I say, not as I do and Rules for thee, but not for me. An examination of crime rates in the Charlotte area likely reflects a lack of quality leadership in the Sherriff's office. From the facts presented this LEO is unethical, lacking in morals and is disrespectful of the law, the people, the profession. He needs to submit his resignation or be removed from office.

Bottom line: McFadden is a Black democRat in a Black democRat ruled county with White Libtard sycophants. This is my view of Mecklenberg County, NC from living there in the early 1980's, you can extrapolate Current Conditions to have ProgreSSed.

Of more Legal Importance for the Repub NC Legislature to take up is that Mecklenberg County and others in NC have "City-County Police" with a Police Chief appointed by the Mayor and or City Council.

Note these Police Chief, unlike Sheriffs are Not Elected. County Police do the law enforcement county wide.

Sheriffs though still elected in these counties have been castrated as Chief Law Enforcement as well as any Policing, even in the county. The Mecklenberg Sheriff ran the Jail and Served some* Arrest Warrants back in the 1980's.

Basically this Sheriff is just a figurehead as far as LE. The "Carry Permits" could be rendered obsolete by State Constitutional Carry, another job for the Legislature, along with Restoring Sheriffs to their original Chief Law Enforcement status.

However the indigenous populants of progreSSive democRat cities will probably continue to vote democRat plantation style politicians into office. That they are swamped with drugs, illegals, and crime seems to escape their attention.

I'm not writing in defense of the sheriff, but I think the headline may be misleading.

There are reportedly 3,081 Sheriff's offices in America. While using racist terminology and improper handling of gun permits is problematic, "one of the country’s worst sheriffs" seems a little hyperbolic.

Of course, ALL Sheriffs could be considered "one of the country's worst" if the bar is set high enough. Proof? Try this sentence: "Every Sheriff in America is among the worst 4000 Sheriffs in America".

So how many "worst" sheriffs did you consider when deciding McFadden was one of them? When I see a headline that touts someone as "one of the worst", I want to know how many are considered to be worse. Is it 5? 10? 100? 1000? And why aren't you naming THOSE Sheriffs?

In 2023, Senate Bill 41 eliminated the requirement to get a permit to purchase a handgun in N. Carolina. Prior to that, ALL Sheriffs in the state were issuing permits to purchase firearms. Were they all perfect, with McFadden being the only "bad apple"?

Is Sheriff Carlos Bolanos of San Mateo County, Calif. "one of the worst"?

What about Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva, who apparently accepted bribes in exchange for preferential treatment in securing concealed carry permits?

Just how many Sheriff qualify for your "one of the worst" list? And who are they?
