Make Florida a Second Amendment Sanctuary State
TGW readers want Gov. Ron DeSantis to take a leadership role in opposing federal anti-gun legislation.
Like most good ideas, this one came from a reader.
Ed in Myakka sent this to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, and then shared it on this site:
Dear Governor DeSantis,
I am very pleased with the job you are doing. I can't believe that I am actually saying that to a politician but it is true.
I am very concerned about the firearms legislation that is pending in Washington. It seems to me that the correct response, on a State level, is to make a declaration that our state is a Second Amendment Sanctuary and that State law enforcement will not cooperate at all with the federal government in the enforcement of unconstitutional gun control laws
I would like you to consider this course of action and to take a leadership position on it, on a national level ideally.
Cordially,
Ed’s rationale is simple: “Individual action is virtually meaningless which is why I have been howling about the need for legislation that declares Florida (and other states) Second amendment Sanctuaries. The point is that it makes a POLITICAL statement and that translates into votes which is the only thing that motivates our political class.”
Another reader quickly joined in:
Dear Governor DeSantis,
I am very concerned about the firearms legislation that is pending in Washington. It seems to me a response from you would make a powerful statement. If you were to make a declaration that our state is a Second Amendment Sanctuary and that State law enforcement will not cooperate at all with the federal government in the enforcement of any new gun control laws. I would like you to consider this course of action and take a leadership position on it first in Florida then on a national level.
Best regards,
If you’d care to send a letter too, here’s the governor’s email address: governorron.desantis@eog.myflorida.com
Do I think it can help?
Well, yes, and I certainly don’t think it can hurt.
Gov. DeSantis is a strong supporter of the Second Amendment, unlike his predecessor, Rick Scott, who signed the largest and most sweeping anti-gun bill in the state’s history into law.
Also, these type of political statements can start momentum, and we’re in dire need of some momentum lately.
Just take a look at some of the federal anti-gun bills that have already been introduced, and keep in mind more are coming, including Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s looney “assault weapon” bill.
Grassroots activism can work, especially when it involves something people are passionate about — like being disarmed.
Kudos, Ed. Thanks for a great idea.
I just sent the governor my letter.
As always, thanks for your time.

There are over 2.2 million CCW permits in the State of Florida. Florida leads the nation in concealed carry. I agree, we need to be a 2A Sanctuary state. WE ALSO need a 1 million citizen march and/or protest at the state capitol. Florida citizens need to converge on the Capitol and raise our voices in unison that any infringement upon our G-d given rights is not welcome here.
I just joined TGW as a paying member. So far so good. It would have taken me a long time to spin
“Sanctuary” concepts to the point of making sense. I.e. I’ll see your sanctuary...and raise you the table limit.... who’s bluffing now ? These are great ideas and conversations... this is what it’s going to take from Americans to not go by the way of many dead people that could not defend themselves. It takes little historical research to see past atrocities that could have been avoided by a well trained and armed population.
