In the UK, the big bogeyman is "knife violence." A few years ago, West Yorkshire police trumpeted a major seizure of "Zombie knives" - which were steak knives in their original packaging, complete with price tags, from a local discount store. If there were no guns, the violence would not abate and the CDC would quickly find another bogeyman.
In WW1, it was a common opinion of troops in the trenches that they would rather be shot than stabbed. I'd rather be neither, which is why I am armed and ready. No kids in my home but still guns are loaded and in quick access safes.
The interesting thread here is, the kids were not lunatics, as the media likes to present: they were protecting family members and/or their homes, they weren't going on a rampage, they were within their rights... oh wait, yes, that's the trouble. Just shoot grandma yourself.
I keep a loaded 37 magnum in my car, and I carry a 9mm on my hip when I go to town. My wife has a 357 magnum by her bed that's loaded. And I also have 2 AR 15's by my bed loaded. We don't have any children with us, and we live in a 55 and older RV Park. Parents are responsible gun storage, but that shouldn't affect the rest of us.
