The title of this piece nails it rather succinctly. As a former state LEO, I was absolutely appalled by that department's actions, or rather the complete lack thereof. It was ingrained in me as a young Military Policeman that we are indeed the ones that were trained to run towards the sound of gunfire, never away.
As I've said elsewhere, I have a conscience, and I can't imagine obeying an (illegitimate) order to stand down or stand by while children are being systematically murdered inside .
I know it may sound extreme, but every single officer that was there more than 5 minutes and doing nothing more than hand wringing and asking what should they do needs to go back through the academy and be re certified. If I was a TO, I'd have a field day with them there. The department's entire chain of command should be terminated and and prosecuted civilly.
Men like Dickens make our case for having the right to defend ourselves and innocents in our vicinity. No matter, the marxist DNC is trying to ramrod legislation through to disarm us which we discussed the other day. Some non RINO needs to fillibuster any attempts by reading the names of the deceased, the names of the nigh useless LEOS involved, and repeat the story of Eli Dickens' heroism as long as they can remain standing.
The more of this story that unfolds, the more obvious just how incredible his actions were.
It's nice to know there are still people willing to be heroes.
It's nicer to know that Eli survived. I hope and pray he has enough support to make it through what will come next, and the ups and downs sure to follow.
( also - THAT KID IS 22 !?!? ) damn - I must be gettin' old!
Train and build your skill level. Learn to be aware of your surrounding. Just as Eli has done! His actions could have not been more diligent, It's not that hard! Supervised training is always best. Be repetitive. Your confidence will grow daily. As far as the Uvalde group goes! Those officers had no confidence in themselves or their partners. If they had, it would have over as soon as they came on the site. They should have engaged the shooter immediately.
I agree with your article with the exception of the officers playing on their phone and using hand sanitizer. Both of those activities were for a “reason”. The one cop was texting with his wife who was in the classroom and had been shot. She was dying. The other officer with the hand sanitizer was setting up a triage area. Details matter. The rest, I completely agree. I train ALL of my students to be their own first responder.
When everyone is questioning the incompetence of the Uvalde police, along comes Eli who puts your faith in average every day citizens with the courage to confront evil when it's needed. Eli needs to be cheered by everyone in this country. He is a reminder that we don't need to wait for police who may or may not show up. We have the ability to take care of each other. Eli is so blessed because his grandfather taught him how to use a gun responsibly and with great accuracy. We can all thank God for the Elis of the world, but we should also let Eli be a great example of what we can do for ourselves. Eli is an incredible marksman, and I can't help but feel so much gratitude for him being in the mall that day.
I still scratch my head, and feel anger over the Uvalde police and their lack of urgency to run and protect a classroom of children. It was beyond incompetence and comprehension. There is something else and bigger...possibly sinister behind all that. I just can't help but wonder.
And yet he still had his detractors via the usual suspects in that he also broke law which was on the face of it merely a request. Talk about disgusting me. Newtown Ct. could have used people like Mr. Dicken in their School when Lanza showed up
Thank you God for giving Eli Dicken the courage and bravery to respond to this shooter, immediately.
A M E N ! ! ! !
Even more baffling is that at least a hand full of officers didn’t say “screw this, let’s get in there!”
That's exactly what I can't understand. You'd think that 1 or 2 of the 400 would have just gone in regardless of orders.
Well now I want to buy this kid *and* his grandpa a beer.

Well said. Eli is a hero.

Let's do some word problem math.
How effective was Eli Dicken at neutralizing the threat?
(77 minutes) x (60 seconds) = 4620 Seconds
(4620 seconds) x (376 cowards) = 1,737,120 (coward-seconds)
Now compare that to Eli:
(One hero) x (15 seconds) = 15 (hero-seconds)
Calculate effectiveness ratio:
1,737,120 ÷ 15 = 115,808
Conclusion:
Eli Dicken's response was OVER 115 THOUSAND TIMES as safe and effective as Uvalde's massive Police response.
(this calculation doesn't even account for # of lives lost, which would increase the ratio in favor of Eli even more)
That's why they hate him. He just showed everyone how well defensive firearm use works.
(From now on I am referring to every successful defensive shootings as "SAFE AND EFFECTIVE")
