Chances of me attending such an event even if local is slim, but I have a mixed feeling about the "ban". I was under the impression that "no guns allowed" was SOP for events such as these, but I'm not a lawyer and don't play one on the internet.

Jane and John Doe with their gun is not the problem but I am sure there are a lot of nut-jobs out there that would like nothing more than to see someone take DeSantis down.

You know what is really annoying in my opinion is that the same people that are whining about this probably have no problem going to an NFL game disarmed. It is a god thing that we can't bring our guns into a saloon because I wouldn't put it past an NFL fan to shoot up the TV when his team lost.

That's kind of what I'm thinking. Unlike an event where people are seated, there will be a lot of movement; very easy for one crazy person to cause mayhem. Also if alcohol is served, that's another good reason.

Good story raising valid questions, Lee.

As a cynical old news editor I don't trust anyone or much of anything, but I DO trust the horse's mouth. Speculating on Ron DeSantis's role in this ban is idle folly: the condition of the horse's teeth is still unknown. The root questions are what's its origin, did/does DeSantis know of the restriction and is he on board with it? All of which, of course, go to how deep are the Guv's true feelings about guns?

Frankly, if he was totally on board with it I'd still vote for him because I don't think it's altogether unreasonable and I'd never vote for a scumorat, especially a weasel like Crist.

I'm a fanatic supporter of Donald Trump, whom I consider one of America's strongest and best presidents, so I seriously worry every time I watch one of his rallies: Will this be the one when some never-Trumper loose-cannon shithead figures out how to kill him?

My old editor's nose smells rusty, dusty aging boilerplate here, rules concocted long ago by the FDLE bureaucrats that are hauled out and waved around every time something like this event comes up.

I have no problem whatsoever with everyone passing through a metal detector, but if someone rings its bell and responds with a valid Florida carry permit why not just let him through? It's the instant lawbreaker who rings its bell and has NO permit who would worry me. Arrest him on the spot.

But we still need answers to those questions I mentioned for the horse's mouth, Lee. Officially credentialed now or not, your tenure as a legitimate Florida newsman qualifies you for five minutes of personal contact with the Guv.

You know he talks one-on-one with big shot slimestream reporters and he can damned well extend that gracious openness to you.

And if you try long enough with no success, then you've got a new column.

Well said, Henry. I'm sure this will yield a series of stories.

To be fair, it a “Ronald Reagan” event and he was a notorious anti gunner. So it makes sense.

If someone rents or leases a property, don't they get control over it - within the limits of the signed contract?

What about renting part of a public park building for a wedding?

I am wondering if alcohol is planed to be served at this event and if the consumption of alcohol is restricted to a particular area. If there is no way to keep an armed contingent from co mingling with alcohol consuming patrons it is a simple matter of compliance with Florida law. Other wise we the public need to know WHO IS ANTI 2ND Amendment. Our Governor, the FDLE representative , some low level grunt who just wants to make their own life easier. Or a Democratic operative seeking to make things difficult for the Governor. Some where is a n action taken with proof of source. Any claim of receiving direction without proof of origin should be considered questionable. As any lawyer will tell you there is very little you can not achieve if you lay out the legal precedence first.

"Oh Führer if you only knew..." He knows. And he doesn't care. There are no good politicians. There are bad politicians and there are complete bastards. The line between is vanishingly thin.

"RULES FOR THEE BUT NOT FOR ME" sorry, but "politicians" are Elitists by nature and their "rear ends" are always More Valuable than yours.

That FDLE can Violate the State Law tells you even more about Polezi Mentality regardless of where you live. The People are just Not to Be Trusted, even with a Fl Weapons Permit.

I would offer the Governor a "To Go BBQ Bag" and well wishes. He is just a man, not a god.

I see, so this little meeting with the Governor is going to be one of those Soft Target type gatherings.

Will Wacko Democrats be allowed into said arena of thought such as another Bernie Bro?

Disappointed, but not surprised. Fear the politician who fears your gun! Just because Crist fears our guns more is no excuse for Governor DeSantis to behave this way.

Good question: Safety of your liked politician versus concealed carry. Sorry, I don't have a definitive answer. I'll only say I feel naked without a carry, and I limit my visits to places that ban them.

The Bill of Rights ARE NOT a suggestion. I bled to defend those rights. We need accountability of our party and our elected officials who continue to belittle this subject by these such violations of their oaths. SHAME ON DESANTIS CAMPAIGN STAFF AND THE local GOP for not standing their ground on this issue.

Very good points made, but at the same time, I understand why they are restricting guns. There are still many nuts on the left that would love to get rid of DeSantis, because they feel he poses a threat to their party. The man has a family and small children as well. If they are going to ban guns from law abiding citizens, I'm hoping they will have a lot of fire power in the house with the sheriff's and police departments to protect him. Even though Florida is a gun rights state, there are still plenty of places you cannot carry one.
