Can we put in the charter that the guard is only valid when a true patriot/conservative is governor of FL?

Nothing wrong with a State Guard under the control of the Governor. But we should not lose sight of the historic fact that the term "militia" did NOT refer to ANY body of of men/women under government control, State or federal, but in fact comprised the people, the rank and file grassroots citizens.

DeSantis is a model of what every state's governor should be. He would make an amazing president, but I get that he wants to keep FL the way it is. His proposed State Guard is probably already funded since the man knows how to make effective use of taxpayer dollars.

I'm in! Let's go! And the Dems nay saying this are doing this for political reasons. Once in place they would send them to protect rioters in Miami from Police and Kyle.

The most important governor in modern American history. RDS is almost singlehandedly resurrecting the 10th Amendment.

Doesn't the IRS have over 10,000 tactical trained and equipped 'agents'? Yes they do. We saw the tactically trained and equipped Bureau of Land Management 'agents' a few years back in NV.

I think what you're referring to are the CI (criminal investigation) and an entity called TIGTA. TIGTA is the IRS version of Internal Affairs Bureau. Revenue officers and Revenue Agents do not carry, so if they have to make a field call that may be questionable based on the demeanor of the taxpayer, an armed escort will be provided upon request. They aren't SWAT team tactical but they are specially trained for situations that can quickly devolve. It is up to the RO or the RA to assess the situation and document it accordingly. That way, another field agent won't be caught off guard in a potentially volatile situation. I believe the numbers you have provided may be on the high side. Many agents have been lost through attrition and pared-down budgets. The last hire before the most recent hire was in 2009. But I digress. Sorry for the somewhat off topic response.

Leave it to people like Fried and Crist to think of this unit as 'secret police'.

Guess how they'd try to use the FL State Guard if THEY were in office.

The implementation had better have plenty of safeguards in place to avoid the misuse when people like those 2 happen to gain office.
