I agree totally. Almost every woman in our family has a weapon and knows how to use it. I guess I am old school for teaching my children and their spouses the art of weaponry. But nobody is going to screw with them.
So many gun controls are justified with the platitude “If it saves just one life...”
This thought-terminating cliché presupposes that guns have no positive utility. It holds that there can never be any costs—other than a slight inconvenience—to making guns more difficult to acquire and use. We still see this miscalculation as courts continue to balance away our rights in the name of “public safety.” That’s why it’s so important to document defensive gun uses, especially when society’s weakest members defend themselves against far stronger assailants.
With more pieces like this, maybe someday we can resurrect the adage, “God created men, but Samuel Colt made them equal.”
Not to pick nits, but this, " the overwhelming majority of domestic violence victims are women" is not true.
Back in the early 1980s when domestic abuse legislation started to pick up, female activists pushed for legislation that mandated whoever threw the first punch would go to jail. When it was passed, they were elated... for a while. Experience turned out to be counter to their intuition. As time went on, it turned out that men and women were being arrested in almost exactly equal numbers. More recently, the person who hits first is slightly more likely to be female.
Naturally, the women's advocates were not happy with this, since their focus has never been on what's "fair", but rather on what's good for women.
What's different about the male/female conflict and why more women wind up hospitalized is that women are physically inferior to men. They're generally smaller, weaker, slower and usually have less experience with fighting. Put a woman and a man in a fight, let the woman take the first shot and chances are she's still going to get her head handed to her.
So yes, half the women who wind up beaten senseless probably deserve our sympathy. As for the rest, they started it. A good rule of thumb is never start a fight you cannot finish. Women have been slow to learn this.
Moral: If you don't want to get mauled, don't poke the bear.
As for women who are legitimate victims (as opposed to instigators and aggressors) being armed is just good sense.
All good points, Lee, and I certainly don't disagree, but I have problems working up much sympathy for unarmed women who fall victims to the dirtbag men they invite into their lives.
Even a superficial observation of who's constantly whining about gun violence and pushing for more ridiculously ineffective gun control legislation will reveal women have been right up there at the front of it all. It's the instinctually naturing mommie thing.
But now that the lunatics stole their way into control of most of the government asylum and serious, often murderous crime is rampant across the dear homeland, those biddies may be changing their tune.
As reported by the Wall Street Journal, "Almost half of all new U.S. gun buyers since the beginning of 2019 have been women, a shift for a market long dominated by men. Preliminary results from the 2021 National Firearms Survey, designed by Deborah Azrael of the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and Matthew Miller of Northeastern University, shows an estimated 3.5 million women became new gun owners from January 2019 through April of this year [2021]. About 4 million men became new gun owners over that period, they found."
You're absolutely right on both of those, to which I'd add from personal experience that female Democrats also tend to be violent by nature.
As squeezes go, the tastes of my youth slid toward the trashy side and I've had my share of knock-down, drag-outs with more than a few of those, not a single instance of which I started. I always wrote that off to their upbringing. Didn't know their politics and didn't care. But later on there were two I dearly loved and still do who were both college-educated newspaper reporters and, OF COURSE, Democrats. One whacked me upside the head with a canoe paddle and the other stuck a lit cigarette in my ear.
Of all the female Republicans I've run around with I can't remember a single one who ever physically attacked me.

While I absolutely agree that policies limiting legal access to firearms will cost lives, predominantly female lives, I believe the statistics of female-on-male domestic abuse are massively skewed by lack of reportage; males are told they have to be tough, and getting beat up by a woman is pretty much the opposite of tough.

Totally agree!

Better be wary, boys, for as Bob Dylan might put it: The times they may be a-changin'.
The reality is that gun control has long been on the Democrat agenda.
The truth about Democrats is that the majority are FEMALE.
You do the math.

Thanks for readying, Howard.
