Interesting that it's Fox 13. Yesterday, while reporting on the stabbings in Traverse City, MI, anchor Linda Hurtado stated that the person wielding the knife was detained in the parking lot by shoppers. No mention of the use of a firearm by a legal carrier to stop the threat.
Unsurprising. Perry (the guy with the pistol) created the safe space for the guys who then took the perp to the ground and relieved the perp of his locking foldable knife. The sheriff gave a summary of the police response, but barely mentioned the guys who stepped up who took the perp down, and like the media, he didn't mention Perry's early intervention with a pistol.
Lee, I think you do great work. Your articles on Patrick Adamiak and Brian Malinowski have been first rate. However, I believe this story misses the mark on the P320. I am far from a Sig hater. I own a couple of P229s which I have carried for a number of years (not currently, not for safety reasons, I just found a gun that works better for me), and when I pocket carry it's a Sig P365 (the same pistol my wife carries daily), I also own a Sig MPX (great gun!) and I hunt with a Sig Cross. All that aside, I don't think you have delved deeply enough into the issues with the P320. My wife owned two of them which she used for classes and competition. We sold them both because we no longer feel they are safe guns to handle. As somone who worked as an expert witness in products cases in an unrelated industry, Sig has handled this issue very poorly and I believe they are going to end up paying a very steep price for their arrogance (if not just outright lying).
Steven, the facts of the Sig P320 were not the subject of the story. Instead, I went after FOX reporters for going after the gun, and for using anti-gun fake data. I may do a story purely about the P320 at some point, but not now. Besides, info on the gun is changing hourly. I appreciate your comments and will take them to heart.
Not all writers (or reporters) are as diligent as you. Unfortunately, the facts in the story just keep getting worse, not better. It would not surprise me if Sig is charged with gross negligence some time in the near future.
And as my wife puts it, many of these police agencies who bought these pistols have smaller budgets and annual purchasing cycles. They just can't run out and buy new pistols, magazines, holsters, spares, etc. They have put these people in a real bind.
The gun (P320) does fire on its own. We have video evidence (over and over and over) showing it and the person's hand is nowhere near the trigger. Sig has lied and done everything they could to gaslight people.
This isn't a partisan or anti gun issue. Its an issue where Sig is definitely in the wrong and tried to cover it up, going so far as to tell people not to believe the video evidence.
Go by an S&W M&P or anything else.... Even a different model of Sig. The fact is, the P320 should be recalled and Sig should refund people or outright trade them up to a new model.
How reliable are those videos of a very unusual event? Sounds like Baldwin of Rust fame... he didn't pull the trigger that killed a woman on thevset. The FBI checked the pistol Baldwin waved around. The FBI said the weapon only fired when the trigger was pulled.
I am still not convinced as some of the videos on the NID events seem to have to have at least partial trigger pulls. Ive been around LEOS for 50+ years and i have seen them do STUPID stuff. They are NOT always gun guys. I was a gun guy who became a cop. No ADs or NIDs ever.
As former USAF Security Police my question is WHY was that sidearm even out of its holster. The rules used to be you unholster at the clearing barrel, then handed the weapon, action open butt first to the armorer. Putting it down on a desk in a loaded state would be a no-no. And safety rule one also failed as you NEVER point a weapon, loaded or not, at yourself or at anything you are not going to shoot.
Something in the story does not pass the smell test. There may be a problem with the Sig but this Airmans death was preventable.
“live-fire shoot house, where teams of participants “battled” against each other with special AR-15s, Glocks and AK-47s, which had been fitted to fire non-lethal paint-ball type ammunition.”
Keep exposing these charlatans. Great work.
I definitely will, G.

Totally agree. What also interests me is what the government will do to fix the problem. Whatever their response, it will cost billions.
And as my wife puts it, many of these police agencies who bought these pistols have smaller budgets and annual purchasing cycles. They just can't run out and buy new pistols, magazines, holsters, spares, etc. They have put these people in a real bind.
What's the problem here?

There is no defending Sig, in any of this.
Totally agree. Sig is big enough to handle the recall.

A Republican state representative should know better than to get tricked by gotcha journalism.

“live fire”? seems like sim rounds.
Sim Munitions.
I don't understand this. The info was correct about the Sig P320 and the M17, 18. What's the point? Please explain
“and its variants”
which are…?
