Politicians: You only need 10 rounds to defend yourself, but police need more
A new federal bill introduced Wednesday will ban magazines that hold more than 10 rounds.
I’ve only been in a couple gunfights.
I have friends who have been in hundreds.
The one thing we have in common is that we all had ammunition left over in the gun once the fight was done.
It’s a great feeling, not seeing slide-lock. As much as we train for it, I don’t want to do a speed reload under fire.
I can’t imagine running out of ammunition when you’re life or the lives of your loved ones are on the line.
Gunfights are extremely unpredictable.
No two are alike.
That’s why you must take every advantage possible: A reliable firearm and gear, sufficient training, the right mindset and plenty of ammunition — plenty.
Now, a group of federal lawmakers wants to restrict your constitutional and God-given right of self defense by limiting the number of rounds you can carry in your firearm.
Evidently, these tactical gurus think 10 rounds is all you’ll ever need, unless you’re a cop.
I doubt any of these politicians have even fired a weapon, much less heard one fired in anger.
Congresswoman Diana DeGette, a Democrat from Colorado, is leading this three-ring debacle.
“A group of federal lawmakers – led by U.S. Reps. Diana DeGette (D-CO), Ted Deutch (D-FL) and Dina Titus (D-NV) in the House and U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) in the Senate – introduced legislation today to ban the sale, manufacturing, transfer, possession or importation of high-capacity gun magazines that are capable of holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition,” DeGette states on her congressional website.
Swell.
And she’s all about commonsense.
“There’s no reason why anyone, other than military, needs a gun magazine that holds more than 10 rounds,” DeGette said. “It’s past time for Congress to act on commonsense gun-safety measures such as this. Banning the sale of high-capacity magazines in this country will save lives and Congress needs to act on this legislation immediately.”
Of course the bill is supported by the usual gun prohibitionists: Brady, Giffords, Everytown and a few I’ve never heard of.
Evidently, these groups and the bill’s sponsors are trying to garner support from law enforcement for their lunacy, by carving them out of the 10-round cap.
“While the sale of any newly manufactured high-capacity magazines would generally be banned nationwide under the bill, there are several provisions that provide a limited number exceptions for certain current and former law enforcement personnel,” the press release states.
To be clear, the bill will allow active-duty police officers and retirees to carry standard-capacity magazines, but citizens will be limited to 10-rounds.
I guess we’ll just have to be more judicious in our marksmanship.
Takeaways
This bill clearly infringes upon the Second Amendment, as well as the most basic rules of self-defense.
It will rob gun owners of the ability to adequately defend themselves and their family members.
It creates second-class citizens — those of us relegated to 10-round magazines and then the VIPs.
It penalizes law abiding citizens rather than the bad guys.
And — most importantly — it will do nothing to deter crime.
Some of you may be familiar with Congresswoman DeGette’s past statements about magazine capacity.
They’re worth a read.
At one time, I don’t think she even knew magazines could be reloaded.
Pure genius, that.
And she’s the one writing the legislation.
As always, thanks for your time.

Thank God it's the Bill of Rights, and not the Bill of Needs..........
I bought 12, 30 round magazines as soon as Biden was sworn into office. I knew what was coming.
